The seminar organized for the international registration of geographical indications was realized by TURKPATENT.
Speaking at the opening of the seminar, The President of Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, Prof. Dr. Habip ASAN stated that they have left behind a very active year in terms of geographical indications and that 343 geographical signs have been registered today and 419 applicants' proceedings are continuing.
Prof. ASAN reported that 3 geographical marks were registered in the European Union (EU) Commission and 13 applicants were in the review stage.
The seminar ended with presentations by Head of Geographical Indications Department Hakan KIZILTEPE and EU Representative Catherine COMBETTE.
With closed sessions made within the scope of the event; the Lisbon System, in which the participation of our country is on the agenda, was evaluated by examining international experiences. Exchanged views about the faster examination of geographical indications between EU and Turkey. In the course of the possible membership of our country to the Lisbon System, the points to be noted,advantages and disadvantages were highlighted.
In the open sessions with the registration owners, trademark representatives and development agencies of our country, experiences shared about information on the more effective protection of our geographical indications in the EU and EU application processes.
