Minister of Industry and Technology KACIR Speaks at the Patent Competition Award Ceremony:
“Last year, more than 10,000 patent applications were filed”
Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih KACIR attended the Patent for Türkiye: 4th Universities Patent Competition Award Ceremony, held within the scope of TEKNOFEST, the world’s largest aviation, space, and technology festival.
The winners of the competition received their awards from Minister KACIR.
“Together, we are breaking a record that is unmatched in the world”
In his speech, Minister KACIR stated that TEKNOFEST has been organized 13 times in 8 years and has provided significant opportunities for younger generations to participate in the National Technology Initiative.
Recalling that technology competitions have been organized since the early years of TEKNOFEST, KACIR said:
“In the first year, we organized 14 competitions and witnessed the projects of 20,000 participants. This year, 1.2 million participants in more than 550,000 teams took part in 64 competitions. Together, we are breaking a record that is unmatched in the world.”
Pointing out that intellectual property is one of the most critical processes in the development of these technologies, KACIR continued:
“With the work carried out by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office and our Ministry, Türkiye’s intellectual property capacity is rising rapidly. Twenty-two years ago, Türkiye’s IP portfolio was around 93,000. Today, we are a country with more than 2 million intellectual property assets.”
“Last year, more than 10,000 patent applications were filed”
KACIR went on to say:
“Back then, the number of patent applications filed in Türkiye in an entire year was only 414. Last year, more than 10,000 patent applications were filed with the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. We are also seeing this rise in our Patent for Türkiye competition. While nearly 500 patent applications were filed in the first year, this year the number has exceeded 800. In the coming period, with the steps taken by Turkish youth in research, development, and innovation, our intellectual property treasure—one of Türkiye’s greatest assets—will continue to grow. We will always stand by our young inventors along this journey.”
Minister KACIR also underlined that a vast R&D ecosystem has been built in the last 22 years, noting that the number of technoparks in Türkiye increased from 2 to 113, the number of firms conducting R&D in technoparks rose from 56 to 11,500, and the number of R&D personnel grew from 29,000 to 292,000.
At the Patent for Türkiye: 4th Universities Patent Competition Award Ceremony, Minister KACIR presented awards to the successful students.
