President of TÜRKPATENT, Prof. Dr. Muhammed Zeki DURAK, stated that 2025 was a breakthrough year filled with records for TÜRKPATENT, noting that “a total of 220,757 industrial property rights applications were filed in 2025.”

Prof. Dr. Muhammed Zeki DURAK shared information about TÜRKPATENT’s activities in 2025.

Emphasizing that the results achieved in the field of industrial property last year are concrete outcomes of Türkiye’s “National Technology Initiative” vision, DURAK said:
“Last year was a breakthrough year full of records for TÜRKPATENT. In 2025, a total of 220,757 industrial property rights applications were filed, including 11,394 domestic patent applications, 3,927 domestic utility model applications, 164,657 domestic trademark applications, 40,258 domestic design applications, and 521 geographical indications. The increase in domestic patent applications continued. We raised the number of domestic patent applications to 11,394 by increasing them by 12 percent compared to the previous year, when we first exceeded five-digit figures in 2024. We also achieved a 10 percent increase in domestic patent grants.”

More than 160,000 registrations in 2025

DURAK reported that throughout 2025, TÜRKPATENT granted a total of 160,782 industrial property rights, including 3,738 patents, 1,835 utility models, 113,722 trademarks, 41,362 designs, and 125 geographical indications.

Referring to the projects implemented, DURAK stated:
“Through our projects targeting R&D and design centers, technoparks, start-ups, and incubation centers, and thanks to the innovation culture we instill in our youth at universities, we are spreading our industrial property ecosystem across all segments of society. We clearly see the results of this approach on a global scale.”

Rise in global indicators

DURAK noted that the World Intellectual Property Indicators Report published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) clearly demonstrates Türkiye’s upward trajectory.

Stating that these indicators show Türkiye’s stable and high-quality development in the field of industrial property, DURAK continued as follows:
“Türkiye ranks 10th worldwide in domestic patent applications, 6th in domestic trademark applications, and 3rd in domestic design applications. According to WIPO’s report, Türkiye ranks first in the world with a 26.1 percent share of women inventors in international patent (PCT) applications. This picture shows that women are one of the strongest pillars of our National Technology Initiative.”

DURAK also noted that Türkiye rose from 23rd to 18th place in the ranking of patent offices, entering the world’s top 20 largest patent offices for the first time in its history. He added that Türkiye achieved a 18.4 percent increase in patent applications and a 38.9 percent increase in patent grants, outperforming the global average.

Emphasizing that these achievements in industrial property make a strong contribution to Türkiye’s production, technology, and branding goals, DURAK said:
“These results we have achieved in industrial property demonstrate that we are moving forward with confidence toward our ‘Century of Türkiye’ goals in production, technology, and branding.”

Highest annual number of registrations in the EU achieved in 2025 with 15 new geographical indications

DURAK stated that the “International Geographical Indication Mobilization,” carried out in line with the Local Development Initiative, has yielded strong results, adding that geographical indications are strategic tools that support local production and strengthen regional development.

Providing information on geographical indications registered in the European Union (EU), DURAK said:
“While we registered a total of 8 products in the EU during the 2013–2023 period, this number reached 10 in 2023 and 11 in 2024. In 2025, we achieved a historic annual record by registering 15 of our geographical indications in the EU. With 15 registrations in 2025, the total number of our geographical indications registered in the EU increased to 44.”

The geographical indications registered in the EU in 2025 were listed as follows:
Silifke Yoğurt, Aydın Memecik Olive, Aydın Pine Nuts, Erzincan Tulum Cheese, Afyon Pastırma, Afyon Sausage, Antep Pistachio Paste, Mut Olive Oil, Kırkağaç Melon, Hatay Kaytaz Börek, Gaziantep Lahmacun, İpsala Rice, Bursa Candied Chestnut, Yenice Linden Honey, and Maraş Çöreği.
