Afyon Sucuğu has been Published in the European Union
Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT) President Prof. Dr. M. Zeki DURAK announced that the Afyon Sucuğu (Sausage) has been published in the Official Gazette of the European Union on February 13, 2025, to be registered.
In a statement he made on his social media account, DURAK emphasized that the international protection and branding of geographical indications is an important step for Türkiye. He stated that this valuable product, specific to the province of Afyon, will be registered and protected in the European Union after the completion of the three-month objection process.
Stating that the number of geographical indications from Türkiye registered in the European Union has reached 30, DURAK noted that a total of 79 applications, 6 of which are in the publishment phase, are ongoing.
President DURAK drew attention to the contribution of geographical indications to the country's economy and made the following assessments:
"As TÜRKPATENT, we continue our efforts to gain a stronger place in the international market with our geographical indications and to provide added value to our country. By examining local values on-site in our provinces and coming together with our local producers, we support the branding process of our geographical indications and continue to build a bridge from tradition to the future."
DURAK stated that, with the completion of the registration process of Afyon Sucuğu, the product will be protected as a geographical indication in the European Union and that efforts are ongoing to ensure that Türkiye's geographically indicated products reach a stronger position on a global scale.
