President of TÜRKPATENT, Prof. Dr. M. Zeki DURAK, made statements to Anadolu Agency regarding industrial property data for the first six months of the year.

DURAK stated that 98,735 domestic industrial property rights applications were filed in Türkiye during the first half of the year and added:
"These applications include 3,538 domestic patents, 1,640 domestic utility models, 75,577 domestic trademarks, 17,820 domestic designs, and 160 geographical indications."

He emphasized that 98,735 domestic industrial property rights applications were submitted to TÜRKPATENT in the first half of 2025, reiterating:
"These applications consist of 3,538 domestic patents, 1,640 domestic utility models, 75,577 domestic trademarks, 17,820 domestic designs, and 160 geographical indications. Intellectual property is the cornerstone of the innovation ecosystem. Application and registration data in the fields of patents, trademarks, designs, and geographical indications reflect our country’s production capacity, its commitment to innovation, and its rising status in the international arena."

DURAK highlighted that 72,647 domestic industrial property rights were registered by TÜRKPATENT during this period. Among the registered rights were 1,522 patents, 911 utility models, 51,130 trademarks, 19,015 designs, and 69 geographical indications.

“Increase in Domestic Patent Applications”

DURAK underlined that the rise in industrial property capacity is directly related to the country’s technological production power and said:
"As a result of Türkiye’s activities in high-tech production, we are witnessing an increase in industrial property applications. The transformation of innovative ideas into economic value contributes not only to individual success stories but also strengthens our country’s global competitiveness."

He emphasized the critical role of intellectual property in converting innovation into economic value, noting that supporting innovative ideas with the right strategies and protecting them with intellectual property rights provides a strong competitive advantage in both local and global markets.
Furthermore, transforming these ideas into economic value paves the way for new inventions and inspiration.

DURAK stated that the increase in Türkiye’s intellectual property capacity is a clear indicator of the country’s innovative and productive potential, and continued:

“At TÜRKPATENT, we not only handle the registration processes of patents, utility models, trademarks, designs, and geographical indications, but we also actively contribute to the commercialization of these rights. In 2002, the number of domestic patent applications was only 414; by 2024, it reached 10,186—an important record for our country. According to the latest World Intellectual Property Indicators Report published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Türkiye ranks 12th globally in domestic patent applications, 6th in trademark applications, and 2nd in design applications. This success once again highlights Türkiye's potential and determination in the fields of innovation and design.”

“9 Geographical Indication Products Registered in the EU This Year”

DURAK shared that Türkiye has made significant progress in geographical indications through efforts led by TÜRKPATENT under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Technology.
In the first six months of 2025, 69 more local products were registered with geographical indications, and 160 new applications were filed. Türkiye’s total number of registered geographical indications has reached 1,754, with 675 products still under application review.

He noted that important efforts are being made at the international level as well:
“In 2025, Silifke Yoğurdu (Yogurt), Aydın Memecik Zeytini (Olive), Erzincan Tulum Peyniri (Cheese), Aydın Çam Fıstığı (Pine Nuts), Afyon Pastırması (Pastrami), Afyon Sucuğu (Sausage), Antep Fıstık Ezmesi (Pistachio Paste), Mut Zeytinyağı (Olive Oil) and Kırkağaç Kavunu (Melon) were registered in the European Union (EU). Thus, the number of Türkiye’s EU-registered geographical indications has risen to 38. While only 8 of our products were registered in the EU between 2013 and 2023, this number increased to 10 in 2023, 11 in 2024, and 9 so far in 2025. We aim to maintain this momentum until the end of the year.”

EU-Registered Products to Be Commercialized

DURAK also provided information on the "Developing Branding and Commercialization Strategies for Geographical Indications" project, carried out in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), aimed at commercializing Türkiye's EU-registered products.
He stated that in the first phase, Aydın Memecik Zeytini (Olive) and Edremit Zeytinyağı (Olive Oil) were selected and that branding and sustainable commercial value creation in the international market are top priorities.

International Invention Fair at TEKNOFEST

DURAK also shared details about the 10th International Invention Fair (TÜRKPATENT ISIF'25), which will be hosted by TEKNOFEST in Istanbul from September 17–21:

"Our fair will bring together local and international inventions from more than 20 countries, once again showcasing innovations and original ideas in the field of industrial property to a wide audience. This year, individual inventors with prototypes can apply to participate until August 15. As always, we aim to provide an inspiring environment where young people and entrepreneurs can present their inventions and reflect the vision of the National Technology Initiative."
