Our country currently has 13 registered geographical indications in the EU
Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih KACIR announced that the registration of Ayaş Domatesi in the European Union (EU) has reached the final stage.
Minister KACIR stated that 12 geographical indication applications were made to the European Union Commission by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT), within the scope of the International Geographical Indications Mobilization movement launched last January, and among these applications, the registration of Ayas Domatesi has reached the final stage.
Ayaş Domatesi, which is one of the most special agricultural products of our Capital city Ankara, will be registered with the completion of the announcement phase that will last for 3 months in the Official Journal of the European Union, and subsequently will take its place among our registered geographical indications in the EU.
Our country currently has 13 registered geographical indications in the EU. The objection period for Milas Yağlı Zeytini (Olive), which is in the announcement stage, will end on August 16, and the objection period for Ayaş Domatesi will end on November 4. Before the end of 2023, the number of registered geographical indications in the European Union will increase to 15.
Türkiye currently holds EU registered geographical indications of Antakya Künefe (Dessert), Aydın İnciri (Fig), Aydın Kestanesi (Chestnut), Bayramiç Beyazı (Fruit), Çağlayancerit Cevizi (Walnut), Edremit Zeytinyağı (Olive Oil), Gaziantep Baklavası (Dessert), Gemlik Zeytini (Olive), Giresun Tombul Fındığı (Hazelnut), Malatya Kayısısı (Apricot), Milas Zeytinyağı (Olive Oil), Suruç Narı (Pomegranate) and Taşköprü Sarımsağı (Garlic) as well as 2 geographical indications that are before the announcement stage and 42 geographical indications that are still in the examination phase.
