Hosted by TEKNOFEST, the opening of the 10th International Invention Fair – TÜRKPATENT ISIF’25 took place with the participation of our Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih KACIR, European Patent Office (EPO) President António CAMPINOS, and ministry officials.
At the opening of TÜRKPATENT ISIF'25 – the 10th International Invention Fair organized within the scope of TEKNOFEST – Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih KACIR delivered a speech.
In his speech, KACIR emphasized that TEKNOFESTs hold a very unique place in Türkiye’s National Technology Initiative, noting that Turkish youth play a crucial role in Türkiye’s journey to become a country that develops, produces, and competitively presents critical technologies to the world with its own capabilities.
KACIR stated that they strive to open new opportunities for young people on all platforms and accelerate Türkiye’s R&D and innovation journey, and he continued:
“This year’s 10th International Invention Fair is also part of these efforts. With the hosting of our Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, we are bringing together 470 inventors from 23 countries along with our guests. Over the past 23 years, we have worked to strengthen both the research and innovation infrastructure in Türkiye and the country’s intellectual property capacity. Under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, we have built a massive research, development, and innovation ecosystem.
We increased Türkiye’s R&D human resources from 29,000 to over 290,000. We raised the number of technoparks in Türkiye from 2 to 113, and the number of innovation-driven companies and startups operating in technoparks from 56 to 11,500. We boosted the share of our national income allocated to research and development from 0.05% to 1.4%. We also increased Türkiye’s annual R&D expenditures from 1.2 billion dollars to 16 billion dollars.”
Reminding that Türkiye has raised the share of national income allocated to research and development to the same level as countries such as Italy and Spain, KACIR pointed out that there is still a long way to go.
KACIR added:
“During this period, we allocated substantial resources and investments to intellectual property. We increased Türkiye’s pool of registered intellectual property rights from 93,000 to 2 million. While the number of patent applications in Türkiye in a single year was only 414, today it has surpassed 10,000.”
