The 66th General Assembly of WIPO was held in Geneva with the participation of the President of TÜRKPATENT, Prof. Dr. M. Zeki DURAK.
The 66th General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) was held in Geneva, July 8-17, 2025, with the participation of the President of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT), Prof. Dr. M. Zeki DURAK.
The WIPO 66th General Assembly was attended by more than 1,600 delegates from 194 countries. Türkiye was represented by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT), the Permanent Mission to the World Trade Organization, and the Directorate General of Copyrights of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
During the opening session of the General Assembly, Prof. Dr. M. Zeki DURAK, President of TÜRKPATENT, delivered the national statement on behalf of Türkiye. In his speech, he emphasized Türkiye’s global achievements in the fields of trademarks and designs, as well as the country’s rising performance in creative outputs.
President DURAK delivered the following key messages:
“Türkiye regards intellectual property not merely as a legal tool but as a key driver of sustainable economic growth, technological advancement, and social development. We believe that intellectual property should support inclusive and collaborative innovation and creative economy ecosystems.”
“Projects we have carried out in cooperation with WIPO, such as the commercialization of academic inventions, the branding of geographical indications, and the support of SMEs, are reflections of this vision.”
Bilateral Meetings
As part of the General Assembly, President DURAK and the accompanying delegation held bilateral meetings with the national intellectual property offices of the United States, Azerbaijan, the United Kingdom, Hungary, and Venezuela.
During the meetings, consultations were held on strengthening cooperation and developing joint projects.
