With the completion of the announcement phase in the Official Journal of the European Union, Araban Sarımsağı will be registered in the EU.
Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih KACIR announced that the final stage has been reached for the registration of Araban Sarımsağı (Garlic) in the European Union (EU). KACIR said, "The registration of Araban Sarımsağı, which is one of the important agricultural products of our Gaziantep province, in the EU will allow our local producers to open up to the world."
There are currently 14 registered geographical indications in the EU, with 6 geographical indications registered in 2023. This number is expected to rise to 20 before the end of 2023.
Known for its ability to grow early due to climatic conditions, Araban Sarımsağı stands out with its large cloves, intense aroma, easiness in extracting and richness in minerals and vitamins.

Registration Process of 47 Geographical Products Continues
In addition to Türkiye’s EU registered geographical indications, namely Antakya Kunefesi (Dessert), Aydın İnciri (Fig), Aydın Kestanesi (Chestnut), Bayramiç Beyazı (Fruit), Çağlayancerit Cevizi (Walnut), Edremit Zeytinyağı (Olive Oil), Gaziantep Baklavası (Dessert), Gemlik Zeytini (Olive), Giresun Tombul Fındığı (Hazelnut), Malatya Kayısısı (Apricot), Milas Zeytinyağı (Olive Oil), Milas Yağlı Zeytini (Olive), Suruç Narı (Pomegranate) and Taşköprü Sarımsağı (Garlic); the registration process for 47 geographical indications is ongoing, 7 of which are at the announcement stage.
