Ayaş Domatesi (Tomato) has been registered by completing the examination processes before the European Union (EU).
Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih KACIR announced that Ayaş Domatesi (Tomato) has been registered by completing the examination processes before the European Union (EU).
Ayaş Domatesi has been the first one to be registered from the 12 geographical indication applications made to the EU by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT) last January within the scope of the “International Geographical Indication Mobilization” and became Türkiye’s 15th EU registered Geographical Indication product.
In 2023, geographical indication applications were made to the EU directly by TÜRKPATENT for the first time, covering Ayaş Domatesi, Bingöl Balı (Honey), Bursa Şeftalisi (Peach), Ezine Peyniri (Cheese), Hüyük Çileği (Strawberry), Isparta Gülyağı (Rose Oil), Kilis Zeytinyağı (Olive Oil), Manisa Mesir Macunu (Paste), Rize Çayı (Tea) ve Urla Sakız Enginarı (Artichoke). Ayaş Domatesi was published by the commission in the shortest time possible and became the product that received a geographical indication.
The 15 products with geographical indications in the EU are as follows:

4. Aydın Kestanesi (Chestnut),
5. Bayramiç Beyazı (Fruit),
6. Çağlayancerit Cevizi (Walnut),
7. Edremit Zeytinyağı (Olive Oil),
8. Gaziantep Baklavası (Dessert),
9. Gemlik Zeytini (Olive),
10. Giresun Tombul Fındığı (Hazelnut),
11. Malatya Kayısısı (Apricot),
12. Milas Zeytinyağı (Olive Oil),
13. Milas Yağlı Zeytini (Olive),
14. Suruç Narı (Pomegranate)
15. Taşköprü Sarımsağı (Garlic)
