Regional Products Fair (YOREX), which has been held for 12 years with the slogan ‘What is your region famous for?’ has opened its doors.
Speaking at the ceremony, TURKPATENT President Prof. Dr. M. Zeki DURAK stated that Türkiye holds the second place in the world with regards to the number of geographically indicated products, after China, and the first place in Europe.
Stating that, geographical indications provide the opportunity to carry the heritage of the past to the future and that they are among of important issues to the Office, due to their contribution to the country's economy, DURAK said, “While the registration of a trademark, patent or design is generally a transaction that concerns a person or company; in geographical indication registrations, we observe, know and feel the connection of all residents of a province, a district or a village with that product or registration. Therefore, when we talk about geographical indications, we are actually touching each of our community and the efforts of each and every person. For this reason, we are aware, and should be aware that geographical indications are very valuable and that they need to be handled very prudently, from registration to inspection.”
Stating that there are currently 1487 geographical indications in our country and that the number is increasing every year, DURAK stated that there are 14 registered geographical indication applications in the European Union and 7 at the announcement stage, and that they expect this number to exceed 20 by the end of the year as the announced applications turn into registration.
Local Products Fair - YOREX, organized in cooperation with Antalya Commodity Exchange and the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB), where hundreds of local products from all over Anatolia are exhibited, will continue at Antalya ANFAŞ Expo and Convention Center until November 5th.
